Frequently Asked Questions
Session Booking FAQs
General Info
I’m new to Pilatique’s Pilates classes where should I begin?
We encourage all newcomers to our studio to schedule a complimentary 30-minute trial & consultation at our studio in Plaza Batai, Damansara Heights.
Our certified STOTT PILATES® instructor will conduct a personalised postural assessment, discuss your fitness goals and provide a tailored workout preview for you.
If you have a medical condition, do let us know as our pilates instructors are also experienced physiotherapists that can assess your condition and provide the treatment plan to your road of recovery in regaining strength and mobility.
Am I too old to join a Pilates class?
Never! Our clients range from 13 – over 80 years old.
What do I wear to a Pilates or Physiotherapy Session?
Wear your sports attire and bring a pair of fresh clean grip socks for the sessions.
Grip socks can also be purchased at the studio if you forget to bring them.
How often should I attend Pilates sessions?
For beginners, we recommend attending Pilates sessions 2 to 3 times per week.
This frequency allows your body to adapt gradually while reinforcing proper technique and movement patterns. Regular practice helps facilitate faster learning and improves muscle memory that builds strength and flexibility, ensuring exercise effectiveness.
As you gain experience, the frequency can be adjusted based on your goals, schedule, and progress. Feel free to discuss your plan anytime with your physiotherapist or Pilates instructor!
How do I book a session at Pilatique?
You can directly WhatsApp our Retail team at +60122053162 to book a complimentary trial & consultation and to ask for further information about our class packages.
How much do the pilates and physiotherapy sessions cost?
You can directly WhatsApp our Retail team at +60122053162 to receive our latest price list and to ask for further information about our class packages.
What is the studio’s no-show and cancellation policy?
If a client wishes to cancel a scheduled session, a notice period of at least 24 hours must be given, failing which, that session will be charged. All medical emergencies would require a submission of a valid medical certificate, failure which the session will be charged.
Do the 1:1 Private + 1:2 Duet & Group Classes cater to all fitness abilities?
Our 1:1 Private Pilates sessions are designed to accommodate to all fitness levels. If you happen to have any medically related mobility injuries or conditions, our studio offers personalised Rehab-Clinical Pilates services to our clients.
Similarly, our Group Classes are designed to accommodate clients of all fitness levels. Under the guidance of our certified instructors, modifications can be provided where necessary.
In our 1:2 Duet Pilates sessions, clients are encouraged to bring their own workout buddy of similar fitness level to share the workout experience together.
How large are your Group Classes?
Our small Group Pilates Classes offer the perfect balance of individual attention and energizing group dynamics. With limited class sizes on the Mat (max. 8 participants) and Reformer (max. 5 participants), you’ll enjoy receiving guidance adapted to your needs while thriving off collective motivation.
I’m pregnant, can I book a Pilates session?
For our pre-natal classes, we typically onboard clients from your second trimester onwards as this would be the safest period during the pregnancy to engage with physical workouts.
For our post-natal clients, we recommend that you start your postpartum recovery journey based on the type of birth procedure you went through:
• Vaginal Birth (Assisted/Unassisted) – 4-6 weeks later with medical clearance
• C-section – 8 weeks later with medical clearance
If you’d like to consider booking an appointment with us, you can WhatsApp us to obtain two forms that you and your attending doctor will need to fill prior to participating in a private pre-natal pilates session.
Currently, there are no Group Pre/Post-Natal Pilates Sessions offered at our studio at this point of time – as we emphasise 100% focus on every prenatal client to ensure safety and proper form in performing exercises as the body is going through multiple changes – joint relaxation being one of them that makes the group prone to injury more than others.
What is Physiotherapy & Rehab Pilates?
Physiotherapy services aim to find out the root cause of your problem and restore movement, reduce pain, and improve physical function through hands-on treatment, exercise, and education.
It supports recovery from sports injuries, back pain, surgery, chronic pain, and various physical conditions – such as scoliosis, flat feet, frozen shoulder, etc.
Rehab Pilates is a form of therapeutic exercise that combines Pilates principles with rehabilitation techniques. It’s tailored to help individuals recover from injuries, surgeries, or chronic conditions with limitations such as limited mobility, pain with aggravation, muscle tightness, joint stiffness to gradually progress into more challenging exercises that would benefit you in your daily movement and help transition into movement without pain by improving core strength, stability, posture, and mobility.
Sessions are guided and adapted to each person’s physical needs, making it a safe and effective part of the recovery process.
What treatments are offered under Physiotherapy?
After a thorough assessment and discussion, our certified, registered and experienced physiotherapist will create a personalized treatment and exercise plan based on your condition and recovery goals. Treatments may include:
- Soft tissue manipulation
- Sports massage
- Myofascial release
- Taping techniques
- Joint mobilization
- Dry needling
- Corrective exercises and movement therapy
These approaches help improve mobility, reduce pain, and support long-term recovery safely and effectively.

Your accumulated Pilates hours must be consistent and continuous until your registered STOTT PILATES® course begins.
These accumulated hours can be made up of a combination of Private + Duet + Group classes.

2) Physical Awareness
3) Endurance
4) Flexibility
5) Strength
6) Balance
7) Coordination
2) Attend an ONLINE Anatomy Component: Anatomy Review Workshop OR Functional Anatomy Course
You must attend either one of the online Anatomy Components*:
- Functional Anatomy Course (30 hours): a comprehensive course with in-depth content to help students with limited to no anatomy knowledge build a strong foundation of learning & understanding human anatomy.
- Anatomy Review Workshop (6 hours): is a quick review of Anatomy that requires students with functional anatomy knowledge to pre-read the material ahead of the workshop.
Registered students will be sent a Zoom invitation closer to the date. No recordings are provided after the online course or workshop concludes.
*Practicing Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy students, Sports Science practitioners, Medical Doctors are exempt from attending the Anatomy Component pre-requisite.
3) Attend the Postural Analysis Review Workshop
During the 5-hour in-person workshop you will gain an in-depth understanding of the following:
1) learn the difference between static and dynamic posture;
2) review steps to conduct a formal postural analysis;
3) identify muscular imbalances
4) practice locating bony landmarks and palpating structures.
4) Submit a movement assessment video for course prep
Course applicants must submit an approximately 3-minute movement assessment video for review to ensure you are ready to learn, practice and execute the Pilates exercises and movements throughout the course safely and effectively. After your last day of each Level 1 Course, you will be accorded 3 months complimentary access to the studio for self-practice (by appointment and availability). If you need more time, additional practice hours can be purchased. Reach out to the studio coordinator for more information.
Within these three (3) months, all active course students will receive a 10% discount on 10 x Pilates Private Session or 25% discount on 10 x Group class packages. These student discounts are limited to 3-purchases per student for the 10 x Private or Group Class packages (total 30 credits per student). Additionally, these student discounts cannot be combined with other ongoing package discounts or promotions at the studio.
What should I do if I have to skip a day of a course?
You are strongly advised to immediately schedule and complete your course replacement hours as soon as possible especially if the skipped day occurs in the middle of an ongoing course. It is preferable to replace missed course hours before the ongoing course concludes. Replacement hours allow students to cover any missed course material (Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels course). Please note that replacement course hours are conducted as a private review with the Instructor Trainer at the student’s own expense.
Students have up to six (6) months to replace any missed course hours. If the student is unable to replace their missed course hours within six (6) months, their course enrolment will be forfeited, and the student will need to retake the entire course to be eligible for examination and certification.
The course replacement hours policy is as follows:
- For the first 5 missed hours, each hour requires a half-hour private session with an Instructor Trainer (2:1 ratio). For example, if you miss 4 hours, you need 2 hours of private sessions.;
- Beyond the first 5 hours, each missed hour requires a full hour of private session (1:1 ratio). For example, if you miss 10 hours, you need 7.5 hours of private sessions (accounting for 2.5 hours for the first 5 hours and 5 hours for the additional 5 hours missed)
- Rehab, Anatomy courses, ISP and Advance courses: Any replacement hours for these courses are done on a 1:1 ratio due to the density of the course material and the expectation that it will take the same amount of time to teach one student as teaching a group.
- No time can be missed during any Foundation Course. If a student misses any hours, then the entire course must be re-taken.
Can I replace missed hours or obtain a recording from any of the Pre-requisite/Foundation Courses or Workshops?
Any photography, video, audio recordings and/or screen capture or screen recording of any Merritew™ course/workshop is strictly prohibited. The intent of any Merrithew™ Online Workshop is to enhance and develop their own personal knowledge. The content from any online workshop is not to be copied, translated or sold in anyway without express written permission from Merrithew™ Education Programming Department and sign a contract restricting its use.
You are required to be on time and present during the scheduled pre-requisite/foundation workshops to complete the course and receive your Letter of Attendance. This means that the video function on your electronic device must be switch on at all times throughout the online workshop or course.
Hours missed during any of the pre-requisite/foundation workshops and courses (specifically Online Anatomy Review and Postural Analysis Workshop) cannot be replaced whereby the student will forfeit their payments and must retake the relevant pre-requisite workshop and courses entirely.
Are there exams for the Pre-requisite/Foundation Courses or Workshops?
There are NO exams for the Pre-requisite/Foundation Courses or Workshops. Students who complete their Pre-requisite/Foundation Courses and Workshops will receive their Letter of Completion (Functional Anatomy Course) and Letter of Attendance (Anatomy Review Workshop & Postural Analysis Review Workshop) respectively.

STOTT PILATES® PRACTICAL & WRITTEN EXAMINATION
What is next after I complete a STOTT PILATES® Education course?
At the conclusion of each course, you will receive a Letter of Completion and continuing education credits.
Your STOTT PILATES® certification is awarded upon successful completion of a course and passing a written and practical exam.
All certifications are cumulative, so exams cover material from previously completed courses. For example, if you are certified in Matwork and want to add Reformer certification (or vice versa), you will take a combined exam (Matwork & Reformer Exam) for both to test your ability to integrate various equipment routines together. Similarly, if you are certified in Matwork and Reformer, and wish to add CCB certification, you will need to take a combined exam (Matwork, Reformer, & CCB Exam) that covers all areas to assess your programming skills across different equipment.
You must take your exam within six months of completing your last STOTT PILATES® Education course. Separate examination fees apply depending on the chosen exam option. Successful completion of Matwork; Reformer; Cadillac, Chair & Barrels; Advanced Repertoire; ISP course and exams are required for full certification.
How do I accumulate the required observation, practice teaching & physical review hours after mycourse?
A minimum number of hours of observation, practice teaching and physical review are required for all courses and should be completed between instructed sessions at any STOTT PILATES® facility. Additional training may be required to prepare for certification.
Observation – can be logged during relevant course homework or after a STOTT PILATES® course and can be accrued by watching a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor/Instructor Trainer teach clients (in-person or online), as well as observing the relevant course videos on DVD or through Merrithew Connect™. We recommend 50-80% of your hours be completed by watching a Certified Instructor/Instructor Trainer. Please ensure you receive permission from the Merrithew Training Center and/or presenting Instructor well in advance.
Physical review physically performing the exercises learned in class. Physical review of the material is very important to ensure full understanding within your own body first, before attempting to teach someone else. It is also very important to ensure your body is prepared for the increased challenge at each level of repertoire as you move through your STOTT PILATES® Instructor Training. Taking a class with a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor/Instructor Trainer or working out with relevant course videos on DVD or through Merrithew Connect can qualify as physical review hours and can be completed individually or with other students.
Students can participate in an online Pilates session or join an online group Pilates class that teaches STOTT PILATES® repertoire with a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor/Instructor Trainer. Students can also attend a Merrithew Online Workshop (offered by Merrithew Training Centers worldwide or the Corporate Training Center).
Practice Teaching – can be fulfilled by teaching STOTT PILATES® course repertoire to family, fellow students, friends or clients, cueing and correcting them through a workout. Practice Teaching can be done in-person or by using a video conferencing program, such as Skype or Zoom.
It is recommended to complete these hours documentation during your 3 months complimentary self-practice access at Pilatique and document it in the log sheets provided in the Matwork + Reformer Support Manual.
How long do I have to complete my course examination?
You must take your practical and written exam within six months of completing your last STOTT PILATES® Education course (this includes ISP and Functional Anatomy courses as they are considered STOTT PILATES® Education courses).
We encourage you to take some time afterward to practice and synthesize the information prior to taking the exam; however, you are welcome to take the exam immediately after you complete the course if you and your Instructor agrees that you are ready.
For more information, please refer to Merrithew Exam FAQ.

- Depending on your chosen exam option, completion of the associated certification course (CMR, IMP, IR, or ICCB) and the required additional hours are necessary.
- You may choose to examine at Level 1 on a certain portion of the repertoire and at Level 2 on another portion. However, we do not recommend only testing on a part of the learned repertoire. Instead, we encourage you to test on all levels and all repertoire for the courses you have taken.

What should I do if I have not taken my examination after my course ended more than six months ago?
If you did not take the exam within six months of completing your course, you must complete private sessions or specific workshops from the list below to regain eligibility. This is known as a reinstatement. The number of required private sessions or workshops depends on how long ago the exam eligibility period ended:
- If less than 12 months have passed since your exam eligibility expired: Complete a minimum of one (1) private session or attend one (1) specific workshop
- If 12 to 24 months have passed: Complete minimum two (2) private sessions or attend two (2) specific workshops
- If more than 24 months have passed: Complete minimum three (3) private sessions or attend three (3) specific workshops
The MINIMUM* number of hours required per private session are:
- Matwork: 1 hour
- Reformer: 1 hour
- Matwork & Reformer: 1–2 hours
- Matwork, Reformer & CCB: 2–3 hours
*Instructor Trainer may recommend further privates or study as preparation.
The reinstatement is valid for 60 days and does not provide the student an additional six months to complete their examination.
Note: Students must select a workshop related to the examination they are being reinstated for (i.e. students cannot take the STOTT PILATES® Exam Preparation: Matwork workshop if they are only examining in Reformer). Workshops for reinstatement are to be selected from the below list only. Other STOTT PILATES® workshops are not eligible to be counted towards the reinstatement process. All sessions and/or workshops are to be completed within 30 days. Once the last session and/or workshop is completed, the student has 60 days to take their examination. A workshop completion letter must be submitted with the completed form.

What is a passing examination score?
You must receive an average score of 80% (practical and written) and achieve a minimum score of 75% on each portion in order to pass. Both of these requirements must be met in order to achieve certification.
How long does it take to receive notification of my examination results?
Exam results will be sent directly to you, normally by email. The LTC and/or Instructor Trainer will also be informed of your examination marks. Expect to receive your results within 6–8 weeks from the date of your exam. Note: Exams results are not returned but can be reviewed upon request.
What if I don’t pass my examination?
If you have to retake a portion of or the entire exam, this should happen within six months of the date of the original exam. This ensures that the information remains relatively fresh but allows time to study and improve in the necessary areas.
If the six-month time limit has passed, you must take both the written and practical exams again and it is highly recommended that you also book privates with an Instructor Trainer.
If you take your exam for the first time and fail both portions, you have one more opportunity, within six months, to successfully pass the exam. If you fail both portions the second time, you must wait six months before retesting.

There are currently NINE Specialty Tracks available. Please refer to Merrithew’s Specialty Tracks for more info.
Can I replace hours missed from a Specialty Track workshop?
Hours missed during any of the Specialty Track workshops cannot be replaced. The student will not receive their Letter of Attendance and is not able to earn their CECs while working towards your Specialty Track designation. Refunds are unavailable for Specialty Track workshops.
How do I receive the “Specialist” designation?
You will need to complete a total of eight workshops within each track to receive the “Specialist” designation. Remember to submit the Specialty Tracks designation request form to ensure that Merrithew® is able to verify that the required number of workshops have been taken.
Can I take Specialty Workshops if I am NOT a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor?
Any workshops taken prior to an individual becoming STOTT PILATES Certified is eligible for “Specialist” designation, however, status will not be granted until certification is achieved.
Can I request a Specialty track designation if I do not have a STOTT PILATES® certification?
A current STOTT PILATES certification at any level is required in order to be recognized as a “Specialist” in any track.
If my yearly CECs are not up to date, can I request a Specialty Track designation?
If any individual completes all workshop requirements in any one track but does not hold a valid certification (i.e. yearly CECs have not been maintained), “Specialist” recognition will be granted only when certification is returned to good standing.
If I retake workshops in any specialty track, will it count towards a designation?
Individuals are welcome to retake workshops to earn CECs however; it will only count once towards Specialty Track designation.
